Gods of Doors

on the lawn of Tzu-Chiang Campus.

The inspiration for this creation is from the God of Gate that is painted on both sides of the gate in temples or Taiwanese traditional architectures. It has the meaning of welcoming fortune and luck, as well as driving out evil spirits. The gate is presented with a simple outer hard frame with the Gods in the middle. The Gods are shown in a three-dimensional version of Chinese Calligraphy with simplified strokes and swirls. Ideas such as Yin and Yang, unreal and real, concave and convex, perspective and expression are used to create the conversation between artistic images and the space around.
