The Poet (partially enlarged) is inspired by Lu Xun, a Chinese writer, and is descriptive of the calm and thoughtful quality of literati. Pu Tian-Sheng stated that he deeply admires Lu Xun’s resolute change of discipline from medicine to literature and inspires the dull minds of the general public when read Lu Xun’s “The True Story of Ah Q” during his studies in Japan. His admiration inspires this masterpiece. This copper sculpture, the Poet, emphasizes the gesture of the head and limb of a scholar by omitting the trunk and presents an intangible spirit. This masterpiece, full of a meditative feeling, offers an invitation to NCKU students to emulate a literatus.
