An abacus is a rectangular, traditional calculation tool used by the Chinese. Not only does this circular abacus have a unique shape, but it is also ideal for solving mathematical problems that require calculation with enormous numbers. The round abacus was originally invented in Qing Dynasty. Its four rims are made of fine copper, and the shafts are made of redwood. The outer rim is 32 cm in diameter and has 50 rows. Among the three round rims there is one bead, four beads, and one bead respectively for a total of 300 beads. In earlier days it was displayed in the lobby or living room as a decoration that carries the meaning of circulation and sustainability. The goal of the College of Management is to cultivate professionals in various industries and the round abacus is a symbol reminding professionals that management should be tolerant and open-minded; all truths should be sought from facts.
